![]() Music Similarity seems to parallel Image Processing. Hausdorff metric (Hausdorff 1914 Barnsley Image compression method 1985), Proximity Space (Riesz 1908 Ptak and Kropatsch, 1995), Digital Topology (Rosenfeld 1977, Rosenfeld and Klette 2004). We attack the similarity problem in music by using theoretical mathematical techniques appropriate to measure nearness between points or sets as in (digital) Image Processing, e.g. Moreover, up to our best knowledge, the applica-tions are strongly restricted to few examples. Unfor-tunately, comparisons with psychological experiment are missing. ![]() There are several mathematical models that offer computational tools for music similarity (restricted to the melodic one). The measure of Similarity in Music is based on different types of information related to specific approaches: symbolic (musicological analysis of scores, texts, historical information as well as numerical methods applied on scores, MIDI codes, etc.) acoustic (audio sig-nal analysis, frequency spectrum etc.) and subjective (theo-retical investigations and experimental results). 27.2 Advanced Caclulus, Papers and Shorter Works 27.2.1 Almost Sure.
